Not too long ago I got a new game for my Wii. I had a gift card from Christmas so I did not pay the $50 needed to purchase such a game. First thing, it always irritates me that Super Mario games almost always cost 50 bucks. Mario Freaking Soccer tends to cost as much as the day it came out. That usually keeps me from purchasing the games. I understand they know they will get it often enough from a lot of people, it just makes me a bit mad. Anyway, back to the actual game for me so far. It allows you to have three different ‘profiles’ so I created one that I would only go single player on and one for when friends come over. The game is fun as hell for when friends come over as we talk smack to each other about our various Mario skills and it does stay lively. But for me, as with any Mario game, I want the single player to be a lot of fun. continue reading…

I just dug out a game I have not played in years because I am going to try and make it to a LAN party next weekend(I think). The game I am referring to is called Quake. Yes, it is rather old but the name was tossed around as a potential game to be played so I wanted to make sure I had it ready to work on my laptop, which I would be bringing, instead of my desktop. I recently got Windows 7 Professional installed on my desktop. It runs 32bit and my laptop runs 7 Ultimate in 64bit. I really doubt there will be much of any difference between the two in terms of playability. My recent games like Team Fortress 2 and slightly older ones like Freedom Force works fine on my laptop. Even Tron 2.0 from some years ago works great on my laptop.

Anyway, back to Quake. It installed fine using the installer that came with my original CD. I tried to get it running using GLQuake with no luck every which way I reconfigured the compatibility settings. Eventually after some digging I found ‘Fitzquake’. Since the source code for Quake was released some time back people have taken it upon themselves to update the code and make it playable on newer machines. After using that executable it started just fine. I was even able to pump the resolution to 1920×1080(1080p) which is HDTV standards. The game does look like crap now days compared to these new fangled ones but man, does Quake run fast as hell. Of course the reason it looks like crap is that the textures and overall technology running it is mostly from around the DOS era days before and just after the start of 3D accelerators. I played a few levels before I saved it and quit. I was a little surprised that I still remembered those levels pretty well. I would like to try multiplayer co-op one day just for fun. One of my oldest friends and I beat the game together many, many years ago. :-)

To be short, it was fun. My sister Sherie, my Nephew Charlie, and my Niece’s husband Richard went with me to Ozzfest yesterday. We got there a little after 10a or so even though it started at 9a. It was very hot so I was drinking water most of the day. I watched some of the bands that were on the second stage for a while. Of course I had to stay a bit back because the bass sound was hurting my ears if I got too close. I listen to a bit of Rob Zombie on the second stage then went to the lawn to sit and wait for the first band on the main stage. I ended up buying an Ozzy hat but no shirt as I could not afford to pay 35 bucks for a tee shirt. I got a bit red from the sun and toward the end of Black Sabbath’s set it started raining bad enough for me to want to leave. We got out of there and it took a long time to get home even though it was only in the Woodlands.

Well, this has been a long week and I am really glad the weekend is tomorrow. I do not have a lot planned so I might do some work on one of the computers I am getting working for the Inlaws. I also have extensive plans for much of the stuff in my computer room so I can keep busy. Anyway, not much else is happening. Lates…

I had to laugh at this yesterday and decided to share it with you.

Scary enough is that some people out there are that way. I know it would be tempting but I do not think I could wear a Superman shirt as my undershirt. My undershirts tend to be either alcohol related tees or just plain white.

This past weekend I went to a birthday party for my Great Niece, Marcie. It was at a gymnastics center kind of place. Normally I just BS with whoever is around but this party I got a chance to hit the springboard and go into a pit of cube-shaped foam type things. I found it refreshing and kind of fun. It also made me realize that I am not in as good of shape as I used to be because getting out of that pit wore me out. After catching my breath I partook in it again. The sure sign of age is when you feel it the next day. I did not feel much but I could tell I did something the day before.

You know, it has been a little while since I have brought out my guitar and attempted to learn it more. My problem is that I am left handed when it comes to playing a guitar and nobody I know, that plays, is left handed so learning how does not get easier. Maybe when I get a chance I will take a picture of it and put it on the blog. Anyway, gotta go. lates…

Dogs…

Sep 28

To start off with, my wife has had a Black Lab dog since before we met and when we finally got a back yard when moving into a house, the dog came along for the ride. Recently my wife and I got two puppies. Needless to say the older dog kinda was upset about all this since the puppies like to jump and bite and lick everything. Of the two puppies mine is the runt of the litter. I have been taking her for walks every so often so she can get used to it. I am glad I got a puppy. Both of the puppies are part Black Lab so they can be very silly…even for dogs. I need to spend a Saturday taking my pup in my truck so as she gets older she won’t have the urge to jump out of it. Right now she stays in front with me but I plan to get her used to the back of the pickup one day. Enough of my rambling I say. Lates

My fingers still hurt from bowling 7+ games in 3 hours. I cannot say that I did bad last night as my highest score was 135. Not too bad for not being a regular bowler and not bowling since last year.
Below are my scores not specifically in order:
135
135
121
105
106
99
96
Those are all the one’s I remember. We could have bowled more but it was a long night and my ability to remember has never been a strong suit. Anyway, lates…

Bowling….

Sep 24

Tonight my nephew Charlie and I are going bowling. We plan to go from about 11p to 2a or so. It will be rather fun I hope. I think I will hurt tomorrow though because we usually play the whole time without stopping.

The New Year’s Eve thing was cool. My nephew and I shot off some fireworks. Toward the end we did a stupid thing and held onto the launchers for the artillery shells. Charlie was able to hold onto it somewhat ok… I on the other hand was more worried about holding too tight and restricting the ability of the shell to expel from the canister and in turn hurting my hand. I have to use a keyboard every day at work so I did not hold onto it too tight. That was a bad thing. The shell came out but the canister also came out of my hand. That spooked me a bit. We did it a couple more times and each time I was unable to hold onto it because of my fear of loosing a hand. I have become attached to it as you may have guessed. The last time I did it I held my pinky finger behind the plastic base of the canister to hopefully re-enforce my grip. That did not work and the plastic base broke under the force of the explosion and the strength of my finger. I was surprised that I did not have to re-set the finger or anything. It did not even hurt. Oh well, later for now…

Good ol’ Pennywise the clown. Yeah, I got IT on DVD a few days ago. It was under ten bucks so I went for it so to speak. It takes a lot for me to get tired of that movie. I turned on the commentary track with this most recent viewing. It had the director and a few of the actors from the movie in there talking. Well, no time to keep shooting the bull. Later…

I am glad the weekend has creeped up on me because I need it to take care of some stuff and do some quick learning of FreeBSD as I want to get it going on my home network. On another note, that Sobig.F trojan that seems to be going around is irritating me a bit. Up at work I had to set up a filter so it would just filter the messages containing said trojan before even the Virusscanner could hit it. It is still an issue since I keep getting postmaster@ and mdaemon@ type emails saying my message did not go through even though I never sent one. I know I will be blamed for something. Oh well, I know the networks I take care of are clean so I am good to go for the most part. Lates…

Snowcones

Aug 12

Ahh, the simple joys of having a snowcone. Been a long time since I have had one. I got a large cup that contains the necessary ingredients pertaining to a snowcone. My favorite flavour(notice the English spelling) is ‘bubblegum’.
